SlideShare’s Free Analytics Tool Now Available

Free Analytics Tool Now Offered by SlideShare

Slide hosting website SlideShare announced on December 11, 2014, that they will begin offering a free analytics tool to their users. In the official blog post, SlideShare’s Gautam Sangh stated that this feature is being offered so that users would get a “deeper insight into the effectiveness of [their] content.”

According to SlideShare, the free analytics tool will help users analyze and measure their audiences’ engagement by examining geographical distribution, traffic sources, and timing. Traffic sources show SlideShare users their sources of traffic, and pinpoints how audiences find their content. Timing, meanwhile, helps SlideShare users “understand seasonal variations in [their] view count — and what days of the week and month perform better when posting content than others”.

SlideShare also announced some new enhancements to view count accuracy by removing web crawler views. A previous bug that underreported some views has been addressed and removed. This may result in increased view counts for some users, and decreased view counts for others, since the improved view count will reflect an organic or “human” audience.

While SlideShare’s free analytics tool may not be as comprehensive or useful as other analytics tools, it does provide some much needed insight to SlideShare users who are trying to gauge the reach, engagement, and overall effectiveness of their content on SlideShare.
