Google My Business Introduces New Photo Categories

Google My Business Adds New Photo Categories; Photos will Display on Map and Search Results

Numerous studies have proven that social media posts with photos drive more engagement than those without photos. Google understands the psychological impact of photos, and is giving businesses more control of the photos that will be displayed with their search and map results.
“When it comes to attracting new customers, photos can both entice customers to your business when they’re browsing online and give customers confidence that they’ve come to the right place,” stated the official announcement by Abhishek Poddar, Product Manager for Google My Business. “Starting [on February 25, 2015], you can tell us which image you’d like to appear when customers search for your business on Google.”

Business owners can logon to Google My Business on the web, or via the Android and iOS apps; click the Photos section; and give their business a “fresh look online” by updating their “profile, logo and cover photos.” Photos added through Google My Business can be displayed across Search, Maps, and Google+. The latest photo interface offers business owners six categories—identity photos, exterior photos, interior photos, photos at work, team photos, as well as additional photos. The photo interface also includes helpful suggestions for each category.

For those who want a sampling of some of the categories, interior photos can help customers get a feel of the ambiance and décor of the business premises, while capture photos demonstrate truthfully what it’s like to stand outside the business premises as a customer. Moreover, business owners can upload their official profile, logo, and cover photos to the identity section, which in turn will be displayed on search and map results.

“We’ll also guide you through adding the best photos to show off what makes your business unique. For example, hotels will receive guidance for adding exterior, room and common space photos that show guests what to expect inside and out. Cafes and restaurants can get customers drooling over their latest food and drink and provide more details with a menu photo.”
