comScore And StatCounter Analyses Reveals Google’s Dominance In Search Engine Market Share

Google continues to dominate the U.S. search marketplace despite a negative 0.1 point change, as reported in the monthly comScore qSearchTM analysis, which was released today.

From 67.4% in July 2014, Google Sites’ market share went down to 67.3% in August 2014. Nevertheless, there is a large gap between Google and its competitors (In contrast, Microsoft Sites’ market share was only 19.4% in August). Although Microsoft Sites went up 0.1 in August, it retained second place in comScore’s search engine rankings. Furthermore, the explicit core search shares of Yahoo Sites, Ask Network, and AOL did not move. [See Figure 1]

Explicit core search queries also did not move in August. All search sites had no change due to little increases or decreases in figures. Google Sites settled on top, acquiring 12.08 billion search queries, which went down from 12.12 billion in July. Meanwhile, Microsoft Sites rose to 3.48 billion from 3.47 billion. [See Figure 2]

Additionally, comScore reported that 68.6% of searches in August were derived from organic search results from Google. Bing powered 27.5% of searches in the same month.

On the other hand, StatCounter revealed a higher percentage of Google’s search market share. Google’s ranking on desktop search reached 76.4% in August versus July 2014. Bing garnered only 12.79%, while Yahoo stalled with 8.7%. [See Figure 3]

This time, Yahoo placed second with 9.61%, followed by Bing with only 4.37%. [See Figure 4]
